Olfa Products

Olfa is, hands down, the best blade maker for general-purpose use in the world. They are based in Japan and distributed worldwide. The founder started the company after he first saw a Hershey's chocolate bar and the way that the chocolate snapped off in neat rectangles. Using that concept, Olfa started making high quality tool steel blades that had partitions along it's length that allowed for the blade to be "snapped off" many times and moved forward in the handle, thus "resharpening" the blade.

A great idea to be sure, but really useless for us hobbyists because we need our blades to be stronger and in a more useful format! Most snap-off style blades do not support a very steep angle which we really need in this hobby, but the secret to the high quality in these blades are in the steel. It's a high carbon tool steel, not stainless steel; so the blades keep an edge, much, much longer than competing brands. After we and others had asked and chased Olfa for many years they finally introduced a true #11 blade along with a good variety of related blades that fit this tremendously popular platform. Rather than just copy the #11 design, Olfa went one better and designed a useful product with outstanding blades and the safest #11 handle you can buy. Incorporating safety features including a cap meant for long-term use and a lug on the handle to keep the tool from rolling off the table Olfa really has a winner here.

Olfa markets their product through many outlets, but stock with these outlets is hit or miss. You just never know what they will have. Will they have what is most useful to you? Olfa's catalog is over 30 pages! Many web outlets want minimum orders and quantities, but we offer no minimums and no shipping and it's impossible to find a better deal. In addition, we guarantee that Olfa #11's will withstand the brutal application of Monocote" cutting over the long term.

If you have an Olfa Tool in mind that we do not have listed here - we can work with you!  Just drop us a line with Part # and Quantity and we'll quote you.  With a discount off list pricing, prompt deliveries and free shipping, you can't go wrong!  (This also helps us learn what our customers want).

#11 Handles, Blades & Accessories – In addition to the venerable #11 blade design, have a look at their tool steel saw blades as well. You might never use your craft saw again...The handle you probably already have. But don't over look the features of this handle. With a spring-loaded collet, it opens up when loosened to accept the blades. Ever fight an X-Acto® handle by trying to get a new blade in that collet? The tool is very well thought out and allows the end user to hold the blade in multiple configurations. The blade can be held rigidly deep in the handle or up high, depending upon what you want to do with it.

Indexable Handles and Blades - Light Duty – Olfa was the inventor of the indexable "Hershey Bar" type cutting blade. When used with well made handles, these blades can be kept short and the blade snaps off for resharpening. The big advantage is that for trimming work, these blades can be extended, and, with care, can be used for a variety of whittling and trimming uses. These 'light duty' cutters are not necessarily light duty - just smaller, with 5/16" wide blades. A variety of blades with different hones and qualities as well as different handles for different applications are available - please read on!

Pizza & Pinking Cutters – Pizza (or circular) cutters are well accepted in the industry. They need to be used with a mat that is rigid enough to make the cut occur in the material. Sometimes cutting on plywood works, but the tool may be prone to premature wear. Cutting Monocote is a fantastic application. Just roll the tool where you want the cut to be made and you are done. Parting fiberglass cloth is also a winner of an application for these tools. The pinking cutters are a close cousin and a real sleeper. There are two major uses for these pinking tools. One involves fiberglass cloth cutting. Just like in the textiles business, if you have a pinked or serrated edge on fragile fabric, it is less prone to fraying when handled later. Light fiberglass cloth is notorious for fraying after cut with a straight edge. After fiberglass cloth is cut with this tool, this is much, much less of a problem. You'll thank us for this! If you are covering your project in clothe, the spacing on the pinking cutters work out to about scale! Best of all, there are replacement blades available for these tools as well.
